Mother of the Year

In Greenwood, the Greenwood Commmonwealth (newspaper) always does a huge front page special on a "Mother of the Year." Well this year us girls and daddy decided to nominate our mother, bc let's face it... she IS 'Mother of the Year!!" I knew there would probably be a slim chance of her winning bc there are probably families who have been submitting their mother's for years, but we did it anyways!!

Momma, we know you had no idea we did this, but here is our submission for you, as Mother of the Year!!

Where do I even begin? My mother has always gone above and beyond her call of duty, in every aspect of her life, be it mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, co-worker, etc. As they say, you never learn to appreciate things until you get older and boy do we have a lot to be thankful for. You never realize just how hard it is to get everything you need to do, done, in one day after working 8 hours of it away, especially with children. I don’t know how she has stayed sane raising three daughters.

She started her journey as a mother 28 years ago, when Ann-Hamilton was born. I came a long three years later. Then 10 years later Eleanor came along. She is now a sophomore, soon to be junior, in high school. Where most parents with children, mine and Ann-Hamilton's ages, have had empty nests for quite a few years, she is still attending every function in the town of Greenwood, with a high school daughter. And in the last two years, she has gained two son-in-laws, Ryan and Kendol, who she treats like her own. And let’s not forget precious Hayes. Five months ago, Ann-Hamilton and Ryan had a precious baby girl, so she can now add “Grandmother of the Year” to her resume as well. I cannot describe the kind of devotion my mother has for all of us. She is like superwoman. I have no idea how she does it all, but I just hope when the time comes, that I am even half of the mother to my children, as she is to us.

Let’s do a little recap: She has been through 22 summers of softball, most of the time being the coach or at least a base coach during games; about 10 years of gymnastics practice 4 days a week and gym meets all over the state on the weekends; 24 years of dance practices, recitals and competitions; 15 cheerleader tryouts, not to mention all of the practices, camps, pep rallies and ballgames; 8 years of sorority events at MS State and planned two weddings. Not to mention all of the other random activities we have been involved in over the years. And most recently, on top of everything else, she has taken on Eleanor's adventure into the world of competitive cheerleading in Grenada. Yes, over this past year she has found time to travel to Grenada during the week for more cheerleader practices. I don't know how she manages, but she still finds time in her busy schedule to come see Ann-Hamilton and I in Brandon, often. You would never know we lived 2 hours away with the amount of trips she takes to come spend the day with us.

She has never missed a thing for any us and all the while, she works full-time and for the last 8 years has lived 20 minutes from town. No matter how hectic the day might be, she always had dinner on the table, and no matter how hectic the week might be, she always finds time for the most important event of the week, church! She has always made sure we were in church on Wednesday night and Sunday morning. She also finds time to answer her phone with all of the thousands of questions we call her with. Whether we're asking for a recipe or trying to get a stain out of something, she always knows the perfect answer and always makes time to talk. We talk about everything. Not only is she a mother, but she is a best friend to all three of us girls.

The best parenting advice her and my daddy passed on to us is, "remember who you are. Whatever you do today, will reflect not only you, but us as parents in the morning." What a perfect way this was to teach respect. They told us this, every time we left the house and still do. If that doesn't make you think about every little action you make, I don't know what will. Other extremely important things they have instilled in us are to always have dinner as a family, at the table, pray hard and be in church on Sunday morning.

What a blessing she has been to us over the years and continues to be, in each of our lives, daily! She is the most selfless, supportive, encouraging, understanding, patient lady in the world and fortunately for us, we are lucky enough to call her Momma!

In her spare time, what little she has, she loves to read, smock, be at the pool and work in the yard.

I could really go on for days about what all she does for our family, but I believe I have hit most of the highlights!!

Happy Mother's Day to our Mother of the Year!!!
(More like Mother of the Quarter Century, to me)
Happy Birthday tomorrow!!
and Happy 32nd Anniversary and Retirement in just a few short weeks!!

WE LOVE YOU
DADDY, ANN-HAMILTON, CALLIE AND ELEANOR!!

"I Dropped My Tooth"

Ok, I have debated all day over whether or not to share this story, but it is just too hysterical not to. Sorry Kendol!!!

Preface:
Kendol has two fake teeth. One that never came in and one that got knocked out playing football. And one of two, also got knocked out by a boogie board at the beach.

First funny story regarding the imfamous fake tooth: Picture it, Kendol and I on our honeymoon and him missing a tooth. He noticed that it had been kind of loose, but was going to wait until after the wedding to get it checked out, bc there was just so much going on. Bad idea. It fell out while we were in the middle of the ocean in Jamaica, snorkling. This was day 3 of the honeymoon and my new husband is toothless. Just like the picture below. Exact tooth, just opposit side. Luckily, I notice IMMEDIATELY and the tooth was in his snorkle... what are the chances of that?? 2 billion to none...Anywho, his original implant had gone bad and since then he has had a few procedures done to begin the process of getting a new implant. Well, about two months ago, they pulled this old tooth out for good and he has had one of those teeth on a retainer things... yes, he takes it out in public all the time to eat and such. HYSTERICAL

STORY:
Ok on to last night: Picture it, we are all at the Jason Aldean/Eric Church concert at the coliseum. Kendol has this look of horror on his face. I asked what happened. His response "I dropped my tooth and there's no way to find it because it's so dark." "You did what, how do you drop your tooth hahaha?" Why he took it out in the first place is beyond me.. who knows!! In between the laughter and spreading the word to the other 10 people around us (Ann-Hamilton, Ryan, Krista, Cody, Stephanie, Wally, Colby, Tiffany, Kalley and Brister), I freaked out a little. This whole process is outrageously expensive and we can't really afford a new tooth retianer, if this one had gotten stepped on or lost for good. Also, this would have meant he really would be toothless until the actual surgery in August.

So, Kendol taps the girl in front of us. She asks what it is we are looking for, to which Kendol responds "my retainer with my tooth." You can imagine the girls facial expression. Luckily it was under her chair and yes, she picked it up and handed it to him. Yes, she touched some crazy persons tooth retainer BAHAHA. Anywho, at this point, he could not put it back in bc it had been on the coliseum floor, so he spent the remainder of the night toothless. HYSTERICAL. I am used to this bc he takes it out all of the time at home. Everyone else, on the other hand, is not so used to it and I don't think we stopped laughing for an hour. He continued to just chat with people that we saw afterwards and never checked up. It never crossed his mind that he is missing a front tooth and is not giving them any sort of explanation. (knowing they are dying on the inside, wishing they could get up the nerve to ask about it) So everyone now thinks I have a toothless husband.

A little twitter humor from today:

Kalley Barlow: Keep on chuckling to myself thinking about kendol loosing his tooth last night @Callie_Collins #thehangover

Colby Johnston: How's that tooth Marve?
Marve's Response: The poor girl who found it is my hero.

(Who is Marve, you ask? Marve would be Kendol. All of his college friends thought he looked like Marve off of Home Alone and it STUCK!! For those of you wondering.)

OOOOO and speaking of Colby... I am super happy to say...
COLBY AND TIFFANY ARE ENGAGED!!!!!!
(as of last night, after the concert)
Preciousness. I could not be more excited for these two. They are about as perfect as you can get.

This could quite possibly be the worst picture ever, but it's too funny.
I was trying to capture the missing tooth, but he wouldn't cooperate.

Cinco De Mayo/Idolo

I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I believe it's safe to say that Kendol and I are a little obsessed with American Idol. And everyone this year really is so good. I loved a few of the performances last night and just wanted to share. Just in case any of you missed it or don't watch, it is down to five, hence the "Idolo" added to my title... pretty ironic on this festive day, I thought!

Ok, I love Scotty. Just throwing that out there. I know there are many, many people who dislike his singing, but I am not one of them... Maybe it's bc I love Josh Turner and he sounds like him.. Maybe it's bc he loves Elvis and danced his heart out to his music, when he was little, just like I did... Maybe it's bc he is very christian and isn't afraid to show it, and I think the world may need a little bit of that... Not real sure which it is, but I just love him!! And I especially loved this performance last night. It's Elvis, of course.

There is no explanation needed on why I loved this. Girlfriend's got major pipes and soul. She is just so unique. I love everything about her. I love anyone who isn't afraid to be different!!

Ok, I don't think an explanation is needed for this on either. He is so in love with his wife and family, and if that doesn't melt your heart, then you might need to get checked out. I wasn't a big fan of his at the beginning bc he was a little cocky, but he is growing on me.

And last, but certainly not least... How gorgeous did Lauren look last night?? Not to mention that she did awesome and I love this song!

Not that yall care one bit about my opinion, so that is all for my American Idol rambilings....for now!!

Have I mentioned anything on here about Jason Aldean and Eric Church??
I don't think I have. (insert sarcasm).
The day is finally here!! WOO HOO.
I CANNOT WAIT!!!

Wee Bit Wednesday

O my gosh, could this day/week get any busier?? I'm not complaining, but I had to take a 30 second break before my head exploded and this is what I chose to do.

{one} when was the last time you used a pay phone (if ever)?
I guess since using the payphones in highschool.

{two} did you ever fail a subject in school?
Nope, but I did have a D in college. Thank goodness for those two chances at academic forgiveness.

{three} where do you go to get your favorite hamburger/cheeseburger?
ooo Five Guys or Mugshots!! YUM Can't freakin wait for Five Guys in Dogwood to open.

{four} have you ever served jury duty?
Nope, thank goodness. (knock on wood)

{five} how old were you when you moved out of your parents’ house?
At 18, when I went to college. I moved back in for about a month after I graduated, until I moved to Jackson.

{six} what is your favorite color to wear?
It seems like I always have on some type of black item. I don't plan it that way, though.

{seven} do you have a pair of shoes that you wear all the time?
OOO, yes, I wear my black Toms, Old West cowboy boots and Rainbow flip flops religiously.

{eight} do you enjoy talk radio?
That would be a big negative, but I toughed it out and listened to talk radio for 4 of 6 hours on the way to Florida last week. Atleast it was football talk!! (Kendol's OBSESSED with talk radio)

{nine} if you could turn one unhealthy food into a healthy one, what food would it be?
Pizza or Mexican food, for sure.

{ten} who is the best speaker you’ve ever heard in person?
Hmmm... I guess the most interesting to me would be Archie Manning or Zig Ziglar.
